Roulette Rules. Below you may find the roulette rules for both European and American Roulette. The main goal in the game of roulette is to guess exactly where the ball will land after spinning the roulette wheel. All roulette players play against the casino which is represented by the dealer (also called crupier).
Each roulette player may bet on a certain number, combination of different numbers, certain colour (black or red), odd or even number and etc. You may learn the types of bets in a game of Roulette in our Roulette Types Of Bets section. The sectors of the roulette wheel may be either 37 or 38, depending on the type of roulette you are playing – European Roulette or American Roulette respectively. In Europe, most of the casinos offer European Roullete which means roulette with 37 sectors. The numbers on the roulette wheel are from 1 to 36 and are alternating between black and red, and also a zero sector that is green. Here is how the numbers and their sectors are situated on a European Roulette wheel:

The American Roulette wheel has 38 sectors – from 1 to 36, alternating between black and red, one 0 green sector and one 00 green sector. Here is how the sectors are situated on an American Roulette wheel:

The advantage of the casino over the players in the American Roulette is 5.26%.
The minimum and the maximum amounts of the bets the roulette players can place are determined by the casino. In most of the casinos there are several roulette tables, each having different bet limits than the others. After the roulette player places his bets, the dealer spins the roulette wheel and drops the ball on the ball’s drop off point then the game is considered to have started. The ball is spinning in the opposite direction of the roulette wheel. The bets on roulette are being done by placing coloured chips on the roulette table, and each player has unique colour chips. After the roulette player decides to stop playing he exchanges his colour chips for cash chips which have their equal value in the relevant currency on their face. The players may place bets on the roulette table until the moment when the dealer announces the end of the period for placing bets (en. “No more bets, thank you”). When the ball lands on one of the sectors the dealer announces the number, marks the sector on the roulette table, collects the lost bets and then pays out the winnings. For the operation of the roulette, three people are needed – dealer, floor person and a pitboss.
