Facebook and 888 Team up to Launch Real Money Gambling in 2013

The casino platform owned by the 888 online gambling operation will soon become the core of new real money gambling operations at Facebook.

While there were years of speculation that Facebook would launch real online casino games, the Palo Alto, California based company shied from online gambling due to US legal restrictions. That, however, all came to a stop on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 when Facebook announced an historic partnership with 888 Holdings PLC, a UK listed firm that operates the 888 online casino brand. 888 Holdings not only offers casino games, but also an online poker room, live sports betting, bingo, arcade games, and financial market betting.

The initial rollout of online gambling on Facebook will be limited to registered users with UK residency due to well established laws governing internet based gaming. The first types of games are expected to be bingo which is one of 888 Holding’s best performing divisions. Bingo is known as one of the most social forms of online gaming with a target demographic of Women aged 18 – 65.  This same demographic also tends to be some of the heaviest users of social networking and Facebook in particular.

If the launch of bingo, and the casino games which are expected to follow, is successful industry analysts expect other casino operators to approach Facebook with plans of their own to offer games of chance to the 1 billion Facebook members. Canadian casino websites such as Maple Casino and Northern Bear are particularly interested in expanding into the realm of social media, and this appears to be an opportune time for those in the industry to start making plans.
