TEXAS HOLD'EM HISTORY

Texas hold’em poker is the most popular poker game in the casinos in Europe, North America and in the world as a whole. It it considered that the game first appeared in Robstown, Texas in the beginning of 20th century. The game was introduced to Las Vegas in 1967 by a group of card players from Texas and it was called Hold’em instead of Texas hold’em. The game didn’t gain big popularity back then and was offered in two Las Vegas casinos only.

Texas hold’em poker became part of the tournament World Series of Poker that is held in Las Vegas every year. Many journalists and professionals suggested that the game should become the main event of the tournament and it did.

The popularity of the game began to grow outside of Nevada. In 1988, Texas hold'em poker became legal in California and started being offered in the card rooms across California. In Europe, it was introduced by Terry Rogers and Liam Flood - two Irish card players and bookmakers who brought it after a trip to Las Vegas.
