Andy Ashkar sentenced for stealing $5 million lottery ticket
A man from New York convicted of illegally possessing another person's winning $5 million scratch-off lottery ticket has been sentenced Tuesday morning. Andy Ashkar can get 8 1/3 to 25 years in prison. The winning $5 million lottery was announced as stolen from the Ashkar’s convenience store in Syracuse. This is the store of Andy’s parents. This happened in October 2006.
The real winner and possessor of the winning lottery ticket is Robert Miles. Andy Ashkar from New York was convicted of criminal possession of stolen property. Ashkar's brother, who was suspected in conspiracy, was cleared of charges.
Meanwhile, lottery officials are close to determining whether the ticket really belongs to Robert Miles.
