Plans for building a new casino in New York by Native American Tribe

The Oneidas is where L Frank Baum was born and is the perfect place for the plans that the Oneida Indian Nation has. It was on Sunday, when it was confirm that the big plan is a casino for the cost of $20 m to be built, and the main theme in the casino will be the Wizard of Oz.

The chief executive officer of the Oneida Nation, Ray Halberitter, announced the plans only four days after there was a state panel recommendation for licensing three non- Indian casinos. So the plans include a vacant building which is in a shopping plaza and that will be renovated to fulfill its future purpose. According to what Halberitter said, there is no permission needed from the state, federal or local governments, because the new casino in Chittenango will be on Oneida reservation land. This is the present situation according to the gaming compact with the state, which was signed in 1993.

So the Oneidas received exclusive rights for performing gambling activity and this can be done in a ten-county area which surrounds Turning Stone Casino in Verona. In exchange of having these rights, the Oneidas have agreed to share with the local and state governments, twenty-five present of the slot revenues they have.

The Turning Stone Casino is really impressive and enormous with lots of places for entertainment, restaurants, hotels and of course gambling areas. The new casino will be smaller, open for twenty-four hours a day and will have 500-seat bingo hall and at least 430 slot machines. The calculations for the casino are to open in Chittenango, in the early spring. The building which will be only 14 miles east of Syracuse should be located on an area of 67,000 sq ft.
